Hello /jp/, I have a serious question for you. I just used the bathroom, and my crap looked just like a Japanese character. I want to know if it's an actualy character, and if so what it means.

Picture related. It's what my dump looked like.

OP here. I should also note that the turd (or 'dot') to the right slowly traveled south at one point, so if the character makes sense with that dot lowered in relation to it, then this may be vital information.
>> Anonymous of Russian Federаtion 10/04/08(Sat)14:49 No.1410959

The dump is now flushed and no longer among us. It had been added to after this character appeared, sinking everything to the bottom in an illegible mess. If there was a message, it was fleeting. And possibly all the more important.

16 KB Who Are We? A Statistical Look at the History of /jp/. Anonymous Economist !IvWppK78Rs No.596139   [view]
Today, I report the results of my exhaustive research on the nature of posting in this /jp/ board.

Taking a random sample of 375 threads from the archive, comprising 9603 posts (or 1.6% of all posts), I tallied the hour at which the thread was posted, the number of sages, the number of replies, and whether or not the OP was 3D pig disgusting.

In my first post here, you can see the summary statistics for the sample. Note the average thread had 25.6 replies and 1.16 sages, implying that 4.5% of all posts are sages. Further, a full 12% of the sample OPs were 3D pig disgusting.

Note: Sage Ratio = Sages/Replies.

Some more interesting statistics:

8.5% of threads generate no replies. Pull up your socks and post something worthwhile.

Over half (51.9%) of threads which receive replies receive no sages! Congratulations on your solid posting!

23.6% of threads with replies have a sage ratio over 20%! That's too much newfaggotry AND too much trolling. Let's do our best to reduce both! Fight-o!

The first question I examined was whether posting was constant over the day. As the associate graph shows, it's clearly not. There is a distinct tendency for more posts to occur in certain hours, particularly the afternoon/evening period, according to Eastern Standard Time.

Of course, this naturally leads to the question: "Is there a nightshift?".
>> Anonymous Economist !IvWppK78Rs5/10/08(Sat)16:04 < No.596156
     File :1210449840450.png-(19 KB, 588x553, statspost4.png)
19 KB
I will define "nightshift" as the period between 2am and 6am EST. This comprised 13.7% of threads in the sample. I judged the quality of threads by the sage ratio. As you can see, nightshift threads actually had more sages - the average nightshift thread had a sage ratio of 8.8%, compared to 8.4% for non-nightshift threads.

Using a standard statistical test for the difference in means (see Hogg, McKean, Craig, p.274), I computed a probability of 55.6% that any given nightshift thread witnessed proportionally more sagery than any given non-nightshift thread.

For you keeners saying "Hey! How can 8.8% and 8.4% be bigger than the 4.5% overall sage ratio?", I'll explain. I'm now averaging the sage ratio per thread, not the overall sages versus overall posts. Consider:

Thread 1: 1 reply, 1 sage. Sage ratio: 100%
Thread 2: 100 replies, 1 sage. Sage ratio: 1%.
Sages comprise 1.98% of the posts, but the average sage ratio is 50.5%.

I deliberately made the decision not to weight threads by the number of replies, since each OP clutters the board to the same degree, regardless of replies. Admittedly, this point can be argued.
