It could quite easily be worked out with scheduling. If you have to play London away, you get your bye week immediately after.

I actually think it would be harder for London. They'd have to play their entire season of away games as one long tour.

They'd probably arrange it so that the London team would play all their away games at once, which is pretty bad but would save on trips. I don't see it happening because of the journeys, not to mention players drafted to that team would be moving to a completely different country.

Unless the London team spends most of their time in America playing the away games without returning and then at the end of the season the American teams come back with us and play the Londoners home games, it would make attending games difficult though. :(

I don't even think you need supersonic flight.

Everyone always talks about how bad the teams will play because of jetlafg... but the Giants/Dolphins game was shit because they hadn't laid the pitch properly and it rained...

...but the second game (Saints/Chargers) had some awesome football. Two passing teams that were having no problem hitting their targets, ending with one last chance hail mary to the endzone.

I think the timezone thing is over-emphasized a little bit. Teams drawn to play London would only have to make the flight once a season, and if you give them their bye week straight after then it wouldn't affect their following games.

This thread is beautiful.

I'd actually quite like to see a franchise in London now, just to see what would happen.

Someone get Chad Pennington's agent on the phone.

Boy'll be a star.

The American public doesn't go to the Super Bowl for the most part. It's mostly media and corporate types.

It's going to happen in our lives, you know.

It's a pretty beautiful thing to imagine. 20, 30 years down the road, watching NFL teams from across the world playing with our kids. Imagine how huge the fantasy league would be.

More importantly, it should get some kids (not huge numbers but enough) playing the sport earlier, which will help the quality of our home-grown players.

It'll take some time for any proper rivalry to pop up between teams if a London club is made. I imagine it'd mainly focus on just general anti america stuff to begin with which will be ironic considering the team will probably be 100% american.

For a proper rivalry to occur I'd say you need at least one of:
a) close proximity of clubs - London won't have
b) play each other often, bonus points if they are in particularly meaningful matches. I guess say teams met 4/5 years in the playoffs for instance.
c) some sort of trade dispute where the two clubs would be pitted against each other. Star player being 'stolen' sort of thing?

I truly think it'd be hard for a London club to gain a club rivalry quickly, the best bet is probably if they are challenging to win the division they're in from the get go.

Britfag football chant tune, though.
>> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)18:32 No.1624387

minimal work, maximum results.
>> Anonymous 09/08/09(Tue)18:34 No.1624401
>>1624365

I get your point, but look at it this way...

>Early in the team's existence, they beat a traditional franchise.

>Rival coach makes some press conference excuse about play times and jetlag.

>London fans troll ceaselessly...

I could see that kicking off a rivalry of some sort, if it was within a division.
