Personally, I liked the first two (obviously) and didn't... like the last two as much. None of it is really epic, though (again, imo).
The first one is hard. For example it punishes you for using sub tanks. And in all the games, if you're doing well, the bosses get bitchy.
I think the games get progressively easier from the first one, but I have a friend who plowed through all of them, but couldn't beat the fourth one. So I dunno.

I'm not sure if I'd call it 'hot-blooded,' but Front Mission 3 is one of the most EPIC PS1 games I've played. Awesome battle skills, massive customizan, and a plot that made me cry /m/anly tears at various points. I highly recommend it, and there are worse games to go out on.

So my mecha suggestions, Front Mission 4, I never beat it... but, hey it was fun. The AC series, never played them as well. MechWarrior, specifially 3, get a joystick and LAY WASTE. For RTS I'd suggest Homeworld 2 (Vanilla, or with Gundam Mod).

Also, I'd suggest SRW OG 1 and SRW OG 2, OGS, and OGG if you have a modded PS2. Also, get the @ games, I'm still playing Gaiden, but hey, DO IT, you will not regret it.

if you've got a Nintendo DS, Super Robot Wars W was a fun romp. Probably a little easy compared to what you already listed. But if you're a fan of some of the shows involved, it treats them pretty well, I thought.

Not sure I want to post this, but it seems like more of a "I have to die so I'll suppress sadness and such", I probably would've wanted to that as well, even if I was terrified, sad and whatever else. I can't imagine playing the Alpha series in a marathon, I got to high 40s in A3 and had to take a break after I screwed up the prison break mission in the Varauta route and didn't get the skill point. I should pick it back though since I'm close to the hidden Gundam units.

You know what I'd suggest? Xenogears. It's one hell of a mecha game, and a fantastic story to boot. If you haven't given it a shot yet, do it.

Late stages take a fucking age to get through. On my second playthrough, I got up to 30 in no time. But am I half way through? No way.
