Extract VH game somewhere

Its important that files retain their japanese names when you extract them and not get renamed to random shit i.e. "É©ëtü@â}âôâRïtù¼.png".
What I did to get them to keep their original names was to run 7-zip with applocale set to japanese.

So yeah, getting this game to work takes some effort...

So far I've found two party members, the futa guard captain that you can get after completing some quest and this loli witch that I bought from the slave market for 100.000 with money borrowed from the devil (he'll come and collect my soul in 30 days if i dont pay him back ;_;)

I didn't grow up playing FF, so can someone give me a general rundown of how combat and healing works? I've found the spacebar makes a stabby animation, and I've killed some little red guys. I know there's a healing potion in my inventory. I know holding down the spacebar makes a brief glowy-ness (what does it do?) and there's a witch living in a cabin who sells potions north of town.

You can buy technique manual 1 an 2 from the potion lady in the starting town.
manual 1 makes it so holding attack charges up to a spinning kick (the charge does nothing without this upgade)
manual 2 makes it so holding shift charges up a projectile attack in similar manners.

Also I don't know of any money cheat but you can lend money from the devil living under a small cabin/shack in the west end of the starting town. He will take your soul or something if you don't repay him in 30 days but in game time pretty much only progresses as you sleep in the inns so it leaves a lot of room for experimentation.

RM2K_105E.exe doesn't want to run on Vista 64-bit. Running it normally prompts it to tell me the OS isn't supported. Running in compatibility mode causes it to putter out and do nothing.

Any work-arounds for this?

for all of you having the problem with half the words showing up as gibberish, go to your region and language settings, click the second last tab and set it to Japanese. It will prompt you to log off, click no then click the last tab and change the unicode settings to Jap as well.

there is only 1 "english version", it's an ancient version and its only half translated. You're going to need to download atlas, Translation Aggregator and AGTH. It strips the text from the game, translates it to engrish so you could understand most of the game.

I've come to an important conclusion, jumping through a couple hundred hoops making this work:

Ha got it working. I had to install the English RTP, then paste the Japanese files over it.

Get as far as loading the game into the RPG maker. I try to run it as a test game and I get this error (and what looks like the window box for the game (yay?)).

Thats your problem, files named incorrectly.
As you can see in my pic there are NO pictures in /battle/ named as in your pic (when extracting there are no duplicates)

Looks to me like you used applocale to open winrar/7zio and then extracted. People said that does work but it absolutely DOES NOT.

Why wouldn't you change your system settings? It takes all of 5 minutes to download and install, then 5 seconds to go through the menus and and change everything to japanese.

I seemed to fix the error by only switching the "language for non unicode programs" option and reinstalled the game and RTP.

BTW I also found out that I was running the applocale in chinese and not in japaneese, which I assume everyone else who tried that method did

regional options set to jp, unicode set to jp, downloaded rm2k and Ertp and even an updated rtp from here http://2drpg.com/2000.php sample rpg worked. then drag and dropped the files from the Jrtp one by one just to make sure

Can't get the Japanese RTP files to extract with 7-zip even after changing region settings. Anyone have a .zip or .rar version that's not on RapidFail?

Fuck yeah, got it to work. I did everything right, but decided to also copy the RTP folder to the folder I had the game installed in. It works now.

I just noticed that if your slut-rating is high enough and you change at the row of cabinets right in front of the bathhouse owner in the first town; you can give him a strip show.
