A few days ago, an Anon mentioned that he included Mr. Rogers as a minor Deity in all of his campaigns.

And, well... ADHD and too much spare time, I suppose. I did my best to keep the memory of the man intact, but what do you think, /tg/?

This is the most badass motherfucker you will ever know. This dude could kill with a mere thought. Within him flowed pure energy to grant him perfection and purity in all he did. He controlled the five elements, and found the fourth hole women have. His voice could enthrall a city, and naught but manly essence erupted where he stood.

Not pictured is his chainsword and army of bitches, to heed his every command.

Please, don't say that kind of things about him.

You want Mr. Rogers awesome? Look at this:

"Mister Rogers went onstage to accept the award — and there, in front of all the soap opera stars and talk show sinceratrons, in front of all the jutting man-tanned jaws and jutting saltwater bosoms, he made his small bow and said into the microphone, "All of us have special ones who have loved us into being. Would you just take, along with me, ten seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are. Ten seconds of silence." And then he lifted his wrist, looked at the audience, looked at his watch, and said, 'I'll watch the time." There was, at first, a small whoop from the crowd, a giddy, strangled hiccup of laughter, as people realized that he wasn't kidding, that Mister Rogers was not some convenient eunuch, but rather a man, an authority figure who actually expected them to do what he asked. And so they did. One second, two seconds, seven seconds — and now the jaws clenched, and the bosoms heaved, and the mascara ran, and the tears fell upon the beglittered gathering like rain leaking down a crystal chandelier. And Mister Rogers finally looked up from his watch and said softly, "May God be with you," to all his vanquished children."

As utterly badass as that sounds, it really isn't what I had in mind for this thread.

I mean, Rogers wasn't some badass conquering motherfucker. He was badass because he elected NOT to be. He didn't like what he saw on TV, he went into television to change that. Started his own kid's show devoted to helping kids learn about their world and how to handle anger, sadness, and death. His persona on the show was exactly the same one he showed to all the world, because it was him. No matter where you were, you saw the true Fred Rogers.

He was against drinking and smoking, and was an avid swimmer. He went up against the Nixon Administration and almost single-handedly saved the future of public television. And he did it all because he wanted our kids to have better lives.

That is Mr. Rogers' legacy, and what I tried to capture here. He's not violent. He doesn't want dominance, or victory, or whateverthefuck.

He wanted everyone to be happy. And he loved every single person he knew to exist.

He was the man who loved everyone.

In a game years ago the party was dealing with a most curious king. His nation had a small army, only for self defense. What kinds of magic that could be practiced was limited to non-dangerous spells. Only temples to netural and good deities were allowed. The king always gave the party quests that almost never involved conflict, much less actual violence. The rather blood thirsty nations around his never invaded out of prolific fear that the rightous nations also boarding this small, curious kingdom would interceed with avengence.

The king wore no armor ever, just casual clothing, but always well kept clothing. He never raised his voice, never belitted anyone and always concerned himself with the well being of his people, his children as he called them.

The party later realized, after their density wore off, that the king had introduced himself as King Rogers. Something clicked and they had a good laugh.

Then when his kingdom was invaded they dropped what they were doing and, along with the good nations bordering King Roger's nation, interceeded on his behalf. Before the battle could even being he arrived and talked down all parites involved. Everyone lef tthe field, went back to their nations and it was over. It was a bloodless war.

At the end of the game every member of the party settled within the lands of King Rogers and swore to uphold the peace of the land.

The idea is to use magic to defuse battles rather than to fight them, preferably before they begin. Diplomacy, Charm spells, et cetera. Clerics of Mr. Rogers put emphasis on Charisma, Wisdom, and Intelligence, to keep the fighting to a minimum.

And if all else fails, break out the hand-to-hand. They don't like it, but their deaths will solve nothing, and since hand-to-hand causes nonlethal damage (or at least I think so, unless 4E has done something weird to it), it's preferable to full-fledged weapons combat.

I've seen this on other forums - how the mention of Mr Rogers' name makes the foul-mouthed, cynical and argumentative suddenly respectful, reverent and unified.

I don't think I expected it to be so pronounced here, on a forum defined by anonymous trolling and rage. I have never in my entire life been more impressed by a man's achievements than I am right now. I'm genuinely touched, and I'd like to thank you all for surprising me this way.

When I see someone contradict another poster on 4chan not by saying 'DERP DERP NO U IDIOT' but instead a gentle "please, don't say that kind of things about him." Well - I'm in awe. Looking at the comments thread on that youtube video, too, there are people saying of Fox News and its staff "I want to rage and call you names, but Mr Rogers taught me better than that."

On a youtube comments thread. I thought it was a law of nature that youtube comments had to be awful, but if it is then it's one that's been broken.

It's humbling. I think I want to be like this every day from now on.

I understand and sympathize, and that's why I try to do things on 4chan how I do, even before this thread. DOn't simply rip into someone with insults and rage, but take the time to figure out what he doesn't like about it and see if you can keep the core of the conversation without it.

1: No, it is not. At least, not from some of us. I have the utmost respect for the man, and every time I think of him, I am instilled with peace, and awe at the power a truly peaceful man holds.

2: I know this to be true, but it saddens me. I was lucky enough to grow up with an example as pure as him watching over me, even if, as a child, I found him corny.
If you did not have the opportunity to watch his show growing up, I encourage you to look up some of his old episodes. Do not look at them as an adult, jaded and bitter. Do not look at them as an old man playing pretend. Look at them as a child would, mind open, and willing to change, if you find something about yourself worth changing. (and you will, if you bother to look)

>1) It's done ironically you cock wipe.

I know, but that doesn't necessarily excuse it. If it's funny, that's great, but how often is it really funny?

The whole point of trolling is that you aren't sincere, but it still gets wearying after a while. It's nice to see people being genuinely respectful about something.

>2) Not all of us are american, Mr Rogers is someone that 97% of the world won't recognise.

I'm British. I never watched Mr Rodgers Neighbourhood growing up. That's what makes this especially moving, I'm an outside observer seeing this outpouring of respect and reverance all these people have for this man who affected them so profoundly.

I don't know how I could have ever been who I am without him.

No matter how I feel about myself, there's always an inkling of ego mixed with self preservation that always makes me grin and bear it. And be glad that I did.

Sure, Maybe he gave us undue feelings of self entitlement and ego... But when you consider things... As much as you may want to care for others and make things better. To Improve things around you, You STILL have to look out for number one. If you're dead and gone, you can't do jack for anyone else. You're a person too, and just as deserving of those you give to.

When Fred Rogers died, I remember feeling an immense sadness, but also Acceptance. He would not have wanted me to mourn for him, but rather, Celebrate his life, and the gifts he gave and received. In fact, that affected me so profoundly that I take that stance on death In General. As a result, I hate funerals.

Britfag here. I started smoking when I was fifteen. Another fifteen years of my life and more money than I care to count went into that addiction. I tried to quit multiple times, but I eventually went back to it when I got stressed out over simple things. Getting pissed off over public transit, my boss for being an intolerable asshole, kids for being loud when I'm trying to sleep during the day for my nightshift job. I went right back to those cancer sticks.

Then an American friend I'd met on IRC mentioned something about how I needed to calm down and just remember Mr. Rogers. Of course, I didn't know who that was and I had to ask. He showed me the video in >>2723584's post, as an example. I asked him if he could send me a few videos.

That changed my life. I haven't smoked a cigarette in over three years. Public transit never seems to get to me anymore. I've stopped getting hostile with my boss, and he's stopped acting like I'm giving him a hard time. And you know, the world looks a lot brighter, these days.

Thank you, Fred Rogers. Thank you.

Find ye the most powerful, touching video of Mr. Rogers you can.
Take this video, and a camcorder, and begin to drive. Do not stop until you find the supposedly "great" chuck norris.
Show your video to norris, and use your camcorder to record his tears.
Place the resultant video on youtube, and let the world see, finally, and undeniably, the power of light and good that is our eternal neighbor, Fred Rogers.

It's already done.

I have to say, the response here surprised me. I was expecting some feedback but not this sizable outburst. Guess I underestimated exactly how many people Fred McFeely Rogers made a difference to during his lengthy run on public TV.

Thank you all for coming, and for your kind words. And remember one thing when you leave:

It doesn't matter who you are, or what you've done, or where you're from. Mr. Rogers loved you. He wanted nothing more than to help you feel better and to control your anger into constructive channels. He wanted to give nervous and worried Cold War Era kids a nationally televised shoulder to lean on, and a kindly voice to hear. He wanted to make a difference, and he changed his life to do so.

And he still loves everybody, /tg/. Never forget that, because it's a good thing. Everybody is special. And knowing that can give you a funny feeling, down in the bottom of your heart, that will help you get through any bad day.

It's such a good feeling, to know you're alive...

"This same rumor has often been applied to boyish country singer-songwriter John Denver (among others), and it's just as false when told of Fred Rogers. Not only did Fred Rogers never serve in the military, there are no gaps in his career when he could conceivably have served in the military - he went straight into college after high school, he moved directly into TV work after graduating college, and his breaks from television work were devoted to attending the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1963) and the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Child Development. Moreover, Fred Rogers was born in 1928 and was therefore too old to have enlisted in the armed services by the time of America's military involvement in Vietnam.

He did not own us, nor did he feel we owed him anything. He only wanted to help us to become better people, and to have us all be as good of friends as possible. If you MUST apply a title to him, let it be the one he applied to himself in life.

I applaud your effort, but I think we should remember that Mr Rogers was always genuine and sincere. It's not really genuine to tell people off for swearing on 4chan, because there's no taboo against swearing here, and we all know it.

If you want to respond in a constructive way then I think it's best to focus on the feelings and the reasons behind the swearing. We know he's trolling by attacking something everyone else cares about. Is it for humorous effect? Or does he feel left out?

And at the same time, we shouldn't assume that it's the result of some deep trauma on his part, or that he's a sociopath, or that he's really ronery and can only troll to for attention, because that would be passive-aggressive internet psychoanalysis which is just another form of flaming.

"What didn't you like about it?" is an awesome response.
