Mount Erebus is freaky, there was this flight accident some decades ago and it's the setting of a Lovecraft novel.
Also, Erebus is the name of a Chaplain of the Word Bearers, a Chaos-Space-Marine Legion from Warhammer 40k.

Kirkjufell translates to steeple from old norse, also called Sukkurtoppen (Sugarloaf Mountain) by danish traders.
It's 463m high.
it lies somewhere eastwestnorthsouth of some really interestingly named places in iceland.
Iceage glaciers formed its particularly steep, wedge-like form and it basically consists of lava.
the ground under the base is made of layers of sediment from down under the sea.

One can climb it from the southside but people shouldn't suffer from fear of heights or else, guess what, they may fall down.

further down in the article they tell stories no one would ever believe anyway.

yeah, I am bored at work.

that's relatively around the corner for me, roughly 80 kilometers to the east.
Germany has quite some awesome tourist attractions, but if you hit the cities and try to have a conversation, 9 out of 10 people, even the young ones, won't understand a word of English because they slacked in school and get everything translated by the media.
The hotels (accidentally work at a hotel and am sitting at the reception right now) do a good job though and fix you up with everything you need.

oh wow, Carl Marx's grave and besides the cemetery looks really great, mausoleums and sculptured grave markers. Besides, it's in London. I'd certainly visit it next time I get there.

Do you actually want people rating those place who already visited them? Quite frankly, I haven't visited a single one of them yet except for the Externsteine and that was almost 20 years ago, so I can just rate by the descriptions of the wiki.
>> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)13:15 No.281546
>>281538
meh, Germans. let's be corteous though and keep it in English.

Anyway heading for some tourist attraction in the middle of nowhere isn't my thing, so half the stuff here looks pretty nice and all but I'd just take a look and that's it. Buildings or caves at least seem to be a bit more solid to keep me interested for a few hours, even that Rastoke place in Croatia.
I am more of a historic-city fag with lots and lots of interesting places stacked.
India would be my thing, there are so fucking many temples and palaces alone, getting a boner just thinking about it.

I see. let's roll then:
- Plitvice: maybe. this is actually one of the few monuments of nature that I could watch for hours and hours, I simply love waterfalls as long as the weather is fine, so I'm going for a 3.

- Rastoke: sounds like a really great place, a small waterfall and a historic city. 2.

- Preikestolen boring. 1.

- Laerdal Tunnel: only interesting if it isn't off a route so somewhere between 2 or 3.

- Jan Mayen: no way! 1.

- Geirangerfjord has a waterfall and it actually looks like there is much more to see than just the sea or something. if there's a hotel near, I'd go there. 4.

- Svalbard Global Seed Vault: I don't know what I should even think of that, really. I'm just going for an uncertain 2 here then.

- Briksdalsbreen: not really interested in glaciers but who knows for how long people will still be able to see glaciers at all? a 2, I'd go there if I was around anyway.

- Uummannaq not a fan of icy tundra or ice bears showing up occasionally and there is pretty much nothing of interest there except for the santa hut... 1.

- Dynjandi: I'd visit it, sucker for waterfalls. definitely 3, maybe 4 if I had more pics it looks nice.

- Kirkjufell: actually being there could be nice, the picture you posted looks like straight out of some fantasy world. let's give it a 3.

- Reynisdrangar: 3 rocks? boring. 1.

- Meteora: that isle looks reeeeally interesting, especially that monastery and that cliff. wouldn't want to miss it. 5.

- Santorini: hmm the site of an inactive volcano? not bad. would check it out if it was near (I guess it's one of the ionic isles and a tour of a few couldn't hurt). 3

- Vikos Gorge: deepest gorge in the world? if I would be forced to go there, I would probably just stand there for 20 minutes and then sit down and read a book. 1.

- Doolin: I like the Irish countrysite, 3 on a tour, it could be one of any possible targets for a random Ireland visit.

- Kylemore Abbey: Jesus Christ I like that building so very much, but as already mentioned, a shame the all girls catholic school was closed. still 5.

- Cliffs of Moher: doesn't really sound interesting to me, but as already mentioned, I like Ireland and it's near Doolin, so it's a 3.

- Wicklow Mountains: Mountains? In Ireland? yeah I'm going there definitely. And the pictures don't look boring at all, you can easily steep those "mountains" (rather hills it seems) 4-5

- Ben Bulben: if it's near, yeah. seems like you can actually see it from the coast. 3, maybe even 4.

- Glenariff: I imagine the Shire like that. if I can't afford going for new zealand, I'd go there instead, just wandering through the countrysite. 4-5.

- The Storr: "The Isle of Skye" I always liked that name, really, but I don't really know what to think of it. 2, would have to check out more material about it first.

- Suðuroy: always imagined the Faroer isles as kinda bleak, wouldn't want to go there, maybe need to check some info out once in a while. 1 for now.

- Lena Pillars: oh that's kinda nice I'd... FAR EASTERN SIBERIA??? no thanks, 1.

- Saxon Switzerland: I simply can't stand the accent they use there, it's just wrong. 3 for the panorama though.

- Externsteine: as already mentioned I have been there once 20 years ago, can't really remember, should maybe get off my ass and just drive over. 2 or 3.

- Multnomah Falls: waterfalls you say? that one looks particularly great, that bridge placed in front of it is just awesome, together, it's majestic. would fap to it. 5!

- Pamukkale: a must-see if you are hanging around there for whatever reason (smuggling, drug/human/weapons/organ-trade...). I can't stand the heat though, that's what will get points off on each "hot" location. 3.

- Beppu: really not interesting for me, I can have hot springs in my bathtub any time. 1

- Socotra: That island is so fucked up. it actually belongs to continental africa, not the arabian peninsula as far as I remember. beaches look awesome, but I can't stand the heat. and with all the pirate problems there I don't know if I'd ever wanted to visit. 1-2.

- Darvaza - Door to hell: that sounds hilarious and it's certainly a spectacle to behold, but I live in the Ruhr Area. I am looking right outside my window now and see a gas-flare from our local coking plant shooting 40-50 meters into the air. why leave home for that? ;)
1.

- Dry Valleys and Blood Falls: There is something about the arctic I dont like. Damn you, Lovecraft, why did I ever read Mountains of Terror? Blood red waterfall? mummified beasts? No thanks! zero!

- Dettifoss/Swartifoss/Seljalandsfoss: Jesus, Iceland suddenly grows more and more interesting. 4

- Giant's causeway: that one is really stupid but still interesting. I still can't imagine cooling lava can form like that.

oh and the Causeway would be a 4.

- Skógafoss: That one is exceptionally pretty. could watch for hours and doing nothing else. 4-5

- Havasu Falls: hurm, didn't know there is anything else Grant Canyon related than that well known panorama view. 3 maybe

- Monte Fitz Roy: so that's in the middle of the mountains? must be hell to get there without a heli. 1-2

- Eden Project? hahaha that reminds me of that rather retarded comedy movie with those two idiots accidentally breaking down that movie-eden project. I don't think I could take this one seriously. 1-2, wouldn't want to go there I think.

- Abberley Hall: finally caught up with you I think. yeah, I'd visit that one, I love historical buildings and I like that bright stone that seems to be common for English buildings. earth used for bricks over here is always red and gets easily brown/black when exposed to industrial air pollution, kinda sucks.
4-5

- A La Ronde, England: heh, reminds me of that Lovegood-house from Harry Potter, would certainly take a look. 4.
