12 KB Inspired by that other Cyclops thread: Arc !hz14sz5IlM No.3277788
Cyke should be able to fly.

Think about it.

A. Eye beams have no recoil on his head.
B. Eye beams have no effect on his own body parts, as evidenced by closing his eyes to prevent firing when the goggles are off.
C. The beams knock things away on impact, indicating that they have force.
D. The eye beams interact with his gloves, as they are not a part of his body.

Cyke can, at the very least, put his gloved hands in front of his eyes and allow the beam force to drag him into the air, since he has no "equal and opposite reaction" acting back on his face. The opposite force is somewhere in a different dimension.

By altering his hands and eyes according to his GEOMETRY POWER, he can propel himself in different directions accurately.

Pic related.

Should the gloves prove insufficient to hand the eye beam's damaging nature, an adamantium reinforced glider could be fabricated. The goggles would be controlled by means of handgrips hardwired to the glider. An improved avionics package is also a plus in this configuration.

Nerd time.

If you actually read the entry for Cyclops you find out that the "force from Punch Dimension" does not just stop when it hits his skin, it actually dissappates completely. This is caused by a very fine skin level psionic field that covers his body. Shooting his hands would not allow him to fly as the force would be instantly dissappated once it hit his skin.

Though this does beg to quest as if you read the entry I believe that it also states that the optic blast does not generate heat, but Kinetic force. If the gloves were not to ever come off, and if the field wasnt large enough to go outside of the gloves then it MIGHT work.

Also, there are 2 ways that cyke can fire the blast with his visor on. There is a button in the thumb of each of his gloves that allows for the visor aperture to open depending on the amount of pressure applied, and then a fail safe in the visor itself (like in the movie).

Yeah i know... tl;dr

Damn it...that...that would actually work. For those that aren't quite getting what the OP is saying, imagine if cyclops blasts a car. The car moves the fuck out of the way while cyclops stands perfectly still. Action without a reaction. Now imagine Cyclops is holding a chain connected to the car, which he then blasts. Car moves, chain moves, cyclops moves.

Now, instead of a car, its a admantium glider. Or really, even just a admantium umbrella would probably do the trick.

The only problem would be that his blasts have instant acceleration, so he'd have to carefully tune his blasts so that he doesn't accidentally kill himself.

They did this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back before the original Dark Phoenix saga where the X-Men fought Proteus for the first time. The Blackbird was destroyed, forcing a bailout of everyone involved and Cyclops used short, controlled bursts to stop the speed of his descent and hold himself relatively aloft long enough for Nightcrawler or Storm to swing back by and bail him out.

Soil liquefaction refers to the soil becoming mushy and soft due to drawing in water from it's surroundings as a result of rapid compression and decompression, not actually melting it.

Find some damp soil or sand, and stamp your foot in place lightly but quickly for a bit. Soon enough, it'll be much wetter and muddier under your foot.

if newton's laws don't apply to Cyclops, ie, he is able to fire his eye punch without an equal and opposite reaction acting upon him,, then he can provide 'wind' for any 'sail' and come along for the ride.

If newton's laws didn't apply to me, I could blow at a sail through a straw and go on as long as I can blow.

If newton's laws did apply to Cyclops, and he is subejct to equal and opposite reaction, he probably couldn't knock down a sentinel without Hulk like strength and stability, cause he would have to eat that much force on his own body. However, he could act as a 'motor' for a boat, presumably he could hold on or attach himself to said 'boat' and blast the water and produce a wake.

So no matter what, Cyclops can self propel, even if was on a skateboard and he was shooting the Blob, or into said umbrella.

Cyclops' eyes generate and expel photon-like particle/waves that repel anything they contact. His body possesses a property that neutralizes the properties of these "punchtons." His body is also unique in that it can pass on this ability to any ruby quartz that comes into contact with his body.

Therefore Cyclops should be able to shoot a low-powered beam at a turbine to make it move, but cannot propel himself from the ground directly with an optic blast.
>> Anonymous 03/04/08(Tue)04:46 No.3278797
>>3278746

another thing to add:

If Newton's laws didn't apply to Cyclops, he would not be able to slow his fall or suspend in air by shooting at the ground, he could soften the ground below him as much as he could, but he would not affect his drop speed.

If Newton's laws did affect Cyclops, he shooting at the ground in mid air would be like extended stilts out of his eyes, he could punch the ground and snap his neck, because at the very least, the punch beam would be moving at Cyclop's drop speed, but that hardly makes sense as that would imply a static beam, ie, a stick sticking out of his face, more likely, the beam is traveling at Cyclop's speed+beam speed=extra fast beam which is more likely to be neck snapping.

if the Blackbird exploded and it was carrying Cyclops, and he grabbed a piece of sheeting from the Blackbird and used it as a parachute and his own eye beam as wind, it would imply that Cyclops would have a grip strength of Spiderman, as he would have to hold onto a piece of metal that was overcoming the force of his bodyweight moving at terminal velocity
>> Anonymous 03/04/08(Tue)04:55 No.3278842
Just had a thought. When cyclops blocks a blast with his eyelids or skin or whatever, the energy is probably doing something, since energy never, ever dissapears.

It has to either be converted from pure kinetic force into something else, or, more likely, channeled directly back into the dimension of PUNCH.

If the former, then what exactly is that energy being converted into?

But I hope for the latter. Why? Because that means that Scott has the ability to redirect kinetic energy that comes into contact with his body into a dimension of punch. That means that if they ever did want to give him an extra superpower, they could give him the ability to absorb kinetic energy from things OTHER than his blasts. Juggernaut punches him in the face, he stops it flat without even flinching.

It'd be like invulnerability, but with absolutely zero knockback while remaining vulnerable to things such as fire or acid.

Cyclops can finetune the strength of his blast by adjusting how much is let through. So, he could grab a piece, then hit it with the tiniest of slivers to start slowing himself down, then gradually increase force.

In order to safely land, he'd only have to slow down his velocity a relatively small amount, so holding onto the scrap would be substantially easier than hanging off of a bridge, where the force acting upon your hands would be equal to the force of gravity pulling you down.

God, /co/ needs more SCIENCE threads...

Second, he could start with weak eye beams and slowly dial them up in order to decellerate gradually in a way he could physically handle.

then.... couldn't he just wear a hood on his costume and use that to fly by blasting into it? it would look silly, but he isn't subject to equal-opposite then it would be the quickest and most convenient way to carry around a flying method.

Well, both Vulcan and Havok had insane powers once maxed out (havok was thrown into a star and emerged with enough powers to tear the shit out of his Omega-level brother), so I wouldn't be surprised if Cyclops has insane hax potential as well.

However, one thing you seem to forgot, cyclops and havok are immune to each others powers. Infact they are not just immune but they actually power each other up - one time, Havok kept blasting Cyclops to charge him up so he can break free of Sinisters hold.

So, its possible that Cyclops' eyepunches are just "reabsorbed" the same way. That or he has robyquartz eyelashes or something.

Also, they are both solar powered, and Havok has to occasionally let out his powers so he doesn't "overcharge". This probably doesn't affect Cyke cause his powers are always on, but, if he actually learns to control it permenantly (like in Astonishing) he could let it build up in himself as well... MEGA OPTIC BLAST anybody?

>>3278898 I thought Cyclops was supposed to be Omega-Level except he got that bump on his head which fucked up his powers.

Omega Level mutants have the potential to transcend their physical existence while still influencing the physical world, in essence becoming gods.

Iceman counts as he could potentially become a God of Cold. Phoenix obviously counts. If Magneto ever got an energy form, he'd count.

Xavier doesn't because he can't effect the physical world. Neither can Cyclops. They're both massively powerful though. Odd as this sounds, they're designated "Alpha" mutants.

Alpha is the most powerful a mutant can be while still being technically human. Beta is second most powerful, etc, then at the last stage you have Omega which is the Final Form of mutancy, so to speak.

Has Cyclops ever been able to curve his blasts? In any case, due to him absorbing the recoil, he'd blow the hell out of the ground but he'd stay put.

What'd be better is a visor over his eyes that is connected to a shoulder harness. Cyclops gets a running start, then looks up, blasting the visor, which pulls on the shoulder harness, propelling him. Forward motion plus punch gives him a super jump. As he comes down, he looks up again to slow his fall. Best part is that he could look up as much as he wants so he can do double jumps and what have you.

Cyclops' blasts are unique in that even though they are made of kinetic force, they never slow down no matter what medium they travel through. A speeding car has lots of kinetic energy, but that energy is absorbed by air friction, gradually reducing the kinetic energy until the car stops.

Since cyclops' blasts never slow down, the friction from air and other medium must instead reduce the total energy of the blasts instead, meaning that the farther his blasts traveled, the weaker they would become, until finally the kinetic force of the blast was converted in waste energy.

Gah, no, I'm telling you, Cyclop's couldn't propel himself with a optic jetpack for the same reason he couldn't slow himself down while falling by shooting the ground. His powers create a one way Action that violates physics, so no matter how hard he blasts the ground, he isn't going to lift off. Naw. This wouldn't work no matter how you look at it. The blasts have no recoil, so he can't shoot something not attached, and the force dissipates when it comes into contact with him, which it would have to if he shot something attached to himself. The force would go through the object and to him (and you are theorizing would make him fly) and would be would go back to the punch dimension through that goram psionic skin field dealy. Because it's still that same force. Cyclops cannot affect himself with his eye beams.
As for hitting an immovable object, he can't. Doesn't exist. Even hitting the Blob would just transfer the energy into the Earth. Negligible effect, to be sure. But effect nonetheless.

This is not how the punch dimension works at all.

Cyclops, could, however, power a perpetual motion machine.

Unless the punch dimension runs out of punch.

But that'd just be ridiculous!

I think the flyclops design would be better if instead of his helmet doing that, tubes attached to outlets on his gloves so he shot it from his hands.

Buuuuuut then he would leave a path of destruction everywhere he flew.

I haven't read the entire thread but has someone mentioned the fact that if Cyclops continuously does an optic blast, he'll eventually run out of juice? At what point, I'm not sure but he wouldn't be able to fly for extended periods of time. Of course, it's all relative.

As I recall, and assuming this wasn't changed in the years between now and when I bothered to keep up, his body just absorbs the energy back, same as when he and Havoc fight.

The visor is brain activated, but, in the olden times at least, there was a focus control on it.

This is everything that Cyclops' character has always needed.

Before it was more of an intellectual thing to know that Cyclops lead the X-Men...
Now, who could help but follow Flyclops wheresoever he may lead?
