I'm yet to put more music on Mediafire (shit's slow as fucked fuck), but I'll post what I've placed so far:
Beethoven: 9th Symphony
Conducted by Daniel Barenboim (one of the best conductor-alive)
West Division Orchestra
-Hands down, the magnum opus of Beethoven and one of the best creations by human. 4th movement is pure bliss - this will get you into classical music.

Beethoven: Symphony no.5 'Fate' (dumm dumm dumm dum) and no.7
Conductor: Carlos Kleiber (Rest in peace)
Orchestra: Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (A+)
One of the best rendition of the symphony. Kleiber is pure genius (shame about his operas, though).
Another good album for beginners and connoisseurs alike.

Shit, my bad. West-eastern divian orchestra. Not well known but on par with Berliner Philhamorniker.

Chopin-the complete 24+1 preludes and nocturne.
Soloist: Rafal Blachez (winner of 2005 Chopin competition)
Not a bad album. On par with Pollini's album. Definitely worth getting it

terribly underrated and unknown album and composition. Mendelssohn's one of the best work. Better than Liszt's pompous concertos.

Beethoven: Piano Concerto no.1 in C minor & Piano Concerto no.4 in G major
Soloist: Lang Lang
Conductor: Christoph Eschenbach
Orchestra: Orchestre De Paris
This album, while not as good as Zimerman/Berstein's version, is much easier to obtain. Lang Lang proves to be a virtuoso by this crystal-clear piano playing.

Claude Debussy - 12 Études for piano
Soloist: Mitsuko Uchida

http://rapidshare.com/files/141999438/Debussy_-_12_Etudes__Mitsuko_Uchida.rar

"Debussy's Études are really the only set that deserves to be put beside Chopin's. What makes them so special? Like his, they are truly "practice pieces," systematically exploring various aspects of keyboard technique. But at the same time, they are poetic works of art, full of fantasy, charm, and musical invention. Uchida's recording is almost universally regarded as the finest version of these works to appear in modern times. Her playing combines effortless virtuosity with pianistic precision, keeping the music's artistic and pedagogical tendencies in a state of exquisite tension. This disc also established Uchida's claim to be recognized as one of the most interesting and talented pianists now active. You need to hear it."

Claude Debussy - Complete Preludes for Piano

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7HXRXNG9

"'A good recording of the Debussy Préludes should feel like an occasion, and Steven Osborne delivers. His playing seeps with atmosphere and he delves deep into the composer’s sound world. There is throughout the sense of going on a journey, even awe, to Osborne’s interpretations. Beautifully recorded, this is total-immersion Debussy'"

Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Concerto no. 5 "Emperor" / Piano Sonata no. 28
Soloist: Helene Grimaud (She's a very distinguished pianist. I have her Schumann Concerto)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4WQK05RO

"This is without question the best recording that Hélène Grimaud has made for DG. The opening "Emperor" gushes forth like a sparkling fountain, at a freshly invigorating basic tempo. Give credit to Vladimir Jurowski for his excellent collaboration, and to a Staatskapelle Dresden that really stays on top of its collective toes. Grimaud even manages to make something special out of those upward scales that so often signal the pianist's entrances and exits. Only in the slow movement does she indulge in a touch of the preciosity that mars some of her more recent efforts, but it's a fleeting memory at best, and the finale goes with all of the joyful enthusiasm that anyone could ask."
I have a better version though (Rudolf Serkin/Bernstein). I'll post them as I go along.

Pictures at an Exhibition & Night on Bald Mountain
Lorin Maazel - Cleveland Orchestra

This was one of the recordings that put Telarc on the musical map, and first revealed the potential of digital recording technology to millions of music lovers and stereo buffs. It's still one of the very finest recordings of "Pictures" around, both as sound and performance. Lorin Maazel maintained the high standards of execution that George Szell inculcated during his quarter century in Cleveland, and for sheer hair-trigger precision, the playing is simply unbeatable. In addition, Telarc captured the performance in what was then and remains demonstration-quality sound, with the famous bass drum thwacks putting a practically subsonic foundation on the whole enterprise. Still a classic. --David Hurwitz

As long as the bitrate is above 192, it is really hard (close to impossible) to distinguish bitrates unless you're really trained. There was a research of comparing 320kbps and FLAC to professional musicians-nearly all of them failed to distinguish these two. I can somehow separate 128kbps from 320, but that's it.

Belá Bartók - String Quartets (complete)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MZZBFKW7

"Béla Bartók has emerged as one of the few modern masters who continue to be regularly performed and recorded. The six string quartets that span his career from 1908 to 1939 are generally regarded as this century's unsurpassed addition to the medium, and they provide an intimate entrée into the world of their withdrawn and enigmatic composer. With this cycle, the Takács Quartet confirms its reputation, against some very fierce competition, as possibly the most cogent, exciting exponent of this music today. They achieve an unusually successful synthesis of the quartets' polarizing components: lyrically haunting "night music," passages of grotesquely ironic humor, and, in the Sixth Quartet, an unrelentingly pervasive sense of desolation and farewell. In the process, the Takács players give visceral life to the extremities of technique Bartók's scores demand. These range from exaggerated glissandi to pizzicati made to snap violently against the fingerboard, at times producing a sound more akin to a percussion battery than a string quartet. The ensemble convincingly traverses Bartók's creative evolution, from the hothouse romanticism of the First Quartet to the Third's densely packed modernist fury and the palindrome structures of the Fourth and Fifth Quartets. Richly nuanced with local color, these accounts are among the best available on disc and will likely become standard-setters."

One can never have enough Russian composers.
Dmitri Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues
Soloist: Keith Jarrett

Disc 1:

Disc 2:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BOHMM2JJ

"Jarrett's interpretation of Shostakovich is perhaps the clearest, most articulate recording ever made of these works, revealing subtlties of texture and mood that previously remained hidden on the printed page...without sacrificing anything in terms of emotion. Part of the credit for this clarity goes to the superior ECM technical recording skills, but any fan of Jarrett's musicality (both expressiveness and clarity) in his jazz playing will find the same qualities here. Incidentally, one thing you won't find here is Jarrett's "singing"...it's missing from all of his classical work.

As is the case with his other superb classical recordings, the real triumph here is that of Jarrett as classical performer. Not only does this work stand completely on its own (in other words, it's not a "classical recording by a jazz artist" but a totally serviceable interpretation in its own right), it also adds significantly to our understanding of Shostakovich's composition. It's not the same work as the Nikolaieva classic, and shouldn't be excessively compared to it. It makes its own statement, along with Keith Jarrett, the classical artist. In any idiom, Keith Jarrett will be remembered as one of the great pianists of our time."

Horowitz plays Rachmaninoff (320 kbps)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4T3U2IDA

This CD contains the Concerto No. 3 (legendary 1951 recording), Sonata No. 2 and some filler pieces.

Horowitz is the master of this concerto. The playing is incredibly fast; as fast as the famous Argerich recording but Horowitz plays with more power and clarity. Unfortunately there are some small cuts made to the score.

Richard Egarr, harpsichord

This is the complete Goldberg Variations, along with the rarely performed Canons on the Goldberg Ground, a set of 14 canons based on the first 8 bass notes of the Goldberg aria. It's performed on a harpsichord tuned to a possible reconstruction of Bach's well-tempered tuning, based on sixth-comma meantone with slight alterations to make it playable in all keys.

The Goldberg Canons were only discovered in 1974, and remain rarely performed and even more rarely recorded (this is, in fact, the only recording I can find). Since they are puzzle canons (a section of score and a rule explaining how to expand it into a full piece), they need to be worked out first. They also in some cases require more than one harpsichord, or at least four hands on one harpsichord (this recording uses multitracking, uncommon in classical production).

Hugo Wolf - Prometheus: Orchesterlieder (Kent Nagano / Juliane Banse / Dietrich Henschel / German Symphony Orchestra Berlin)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W85IEYOU

"Originally composed for voice and piano, these Lieder were orchestrated by the composer himself. Hugo Wolf is considered one of the greatest composers of the German art song, he represents the ideas of the New German School (the Wagnerian camp) in that genre to a certain degree, his highly chromatic Lieder often circle around a single Leitmotif and are marked by a concentration and use of chromaticism that already anticipates musical Expressionism. His voice as a composer was inimitable, one has to wonder why Strauss' relatively harmless orchestral songs are still far more popular than these masterpieces.

This is a gorgeous disk, from the first-rate singers to Nagano's conducting - he draws airy, transparent playing from the orchestra that is perfectly suited to Wolf's poignant idiom. The sonics are top-notch as well, this recording has quickly become one of my all-time favorites."

This recording is really nice. I have all 4 symphonies but I don't think that I'll have time to upload them all.
My favorite symphony: No. 4 in E minor. Reminds me of late Autumn.

Pic unrelated, couldn't find Solti's picture. So have Toscanini.

The best cure against all those Wagnerian clichés, it's his best quartet as far as I'm concerned and a highlight in the whole litterature. It's still very Mendelssohnian, but it's probably one of his most tragic and passionate work, I can't get enough of it personally.

Hewitt is one of the gems from Hyperion Record. Her playing is just flawless. Nice way to rediscover unappreciated music from Schumann: I place Schumann very high in Romantic period (hence my name).

Although I hate most of the Liszt's works, he deserves more attention than Chopin (I'm biased toward Chopin).
His late works really shines through the masked virtuosity (even though he's not as good as Alkan).
Here's Liszt's lesser-known three concert etudes. No.2 is my favorite.

Andrés Segovia - The Legendary Segovia
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4UUUQAQM

"The Segovia heard in these recordings, made between 1927 and 1939, is quite different from the somewhat enfeebled legend who toured and recorded through his 80s. The flashing virtuosity and color of the best of these 78s compares better with the virtuosic standards of the '90s. Just hearing Tárrega's familiar Recuerdos de la Alhambra in this 1927 recording is enough to convince you that you're listening to one of the great guitar virtuosos of all time. It's unclear why Segovia's often-sentimentalized Bach became so famous, and the transcriptions that lead off this disc are quite unstylish by our contemporary standards. But once you get past those and the following Baroque items, which take up only a few minutes, you're into the romantic and 20th-century repertoire that Segovia played so brilliantly. The amazing transfers make the recordings sound much more recent than they actually are."

Andrés Segovia - The Art of Segovia
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MIDN72BK

Anyone who loves the classical guitar must also love Andrés Segovia -- even if he/she doesn't know it yet. He is credited with garnering -- almost single-handedly -- big-league status for the plucky six-string, and virtually every modern player stands on the foundation of his legacy. Anyone wanting to hear why this is true would do well to start with Deutsche Grammophon's lovingly prepared The Art of Segovia, which pays tribute to both his playing and his tireless repertory building. His performances of guitar staples by Sor, Torroba, and Rodrigo are coupled here with his nimble transcriptions of works for keyboard, cello, violin -- even string quartet -- by Bach, Handel, César Franck, Mendelssohn, and others; these two elements combine to give as complete a picture as possible (considering the limitations of space on a modest two-disc set) of his technique and ingenuity, and of course his grasp of the guitar's possibilities. Audiophiles won't find ideal sound here; many of the tracks were recorded monaurally, and the performances seem a little unkempt next to airbrushed digital equivalents. But this is what makes it so interesting; you can practically see his fingers intuitively working their way across the instrument, and the occasional squeak or buzz only makes the experience more vivid. The many highlights include Fernando Sor's Theme and Variations on a Theme from The Magic Flute and Segovia's transcription of the Prélude to Bach's Suite No. 1 for Cello, both of which sound intricate and easy. These performances convey an infectious love and understanding of the guitar that is a joy to experience.

Hilary Hahn's Sibelius is very boring. I recommend Arve Tellefsen or Henning Kraggerud (bad production, but thrilling performance). They both sound more Scandinavian and make the concerto sound more like snoqy and dark Finnish forests. A bit more macabre third movement from Tellefsen too.

Because I'm an Tveitt addict. Bad quality (from the 50's) but it's amazing to hear Tveitt plow through the whole of Sonate Etere in that speed and with such lightness. Because oh gawd it's difficult. Only published recording of piano concert no. 3 btw.

Geirr Tveitt - Baldurs Draumar / Telemarkin (Ole Kristian Ruud / Stavanger Symphony Orchestra / Magne Fremmerlid / Trine Øien / Solveig Kringelborn / Ulf Øien)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=61GFSLXF

The score of this symbolic play/ballet was lost when it was sent to London during WWII, this version was meticulously reconstructed from the charred fragments retrieved from Tveitt's burned home and the radio broadcast of the '38 premiere. It's an amazing, epic (for once this label is appropriate, it is based on epic poetry after all) piece of music, in some ways reminiscent of early Stravinsky but always with Norwegian folk inflection, timelessly archaic.
