I work for the holiday season at Toys R Us in Times Square, and so my co-worker comes up to me and says "This kid wants to buy his sister a gift. He saved up $250 for it." Normally when I think of kids in toy stores I think of kids with their parents, but this guy was half my height and all alone. I would have to guess he was 10 or something.

So he plans to buy an electric scooter with his hard saved money, and he plans to ship it to where he lives (which, fortunately, is in Manhattan). Behind the register we discuss shipping, and after counting the money, it looks as if he doesn't have enough, but we assume the best and I follow my co-worker as he takes the electric scooter into the UPS store.

In the UPS store we weigh the electric scooter and the price of same-day shipping, which is the cheapest, came up to $20. The kid looks in his wallet and comes up with $15.

"Oh no, I don't have enough..." he says with disappointment. I dig deeply into my pocket but can only come up with $3. Then the guy at the register says "Here man, I got a couple of bucks."

The kid gathers the money, looks up at us and says "Wow... thanks guys, my sister is going to be really happy with this..."
